Northern Inland Regional Waste and participating member Councils opened the 2008 Waste > Art & Design Competition for entries on Monday 28 April 2008.

Entry forms are available by contacting partipating Local Councils.  Entries close on 13th June 2008.

This unique art competition and exhibition is open to all residents in participating Council areas. It celebrates the reuse and recycling of waste in our community through art, sculpture and graphic design.

Eligible winners in the local competitions will go to compete in the Regional Waste > Art & Design Competition, to be held in Armidale in August.

The competition includes categories to challenge and stimulate the imagination, which were:

Primary School Section:

2D – Posters / Painting / Collage

3D – Sculpture/Mixed Media/Functional Art /Wearable Art

Secondary School Section:

2D – Posters / Painting / Collage

3D – Sculpture/Mixed Media/Functional Art/Wearable Art

Open/Community Section:

2D – Posters / Painting / Collage

IMPORTANT COMPETITION INFORMATION

Competition Winners Criteria

Winning entries will be selected from each category and section, and will be judged on the following criteria:-

  • Demonstration of re-use or recycling of material
  • Waste reduction message
  • Artistic quality
  • Craftsmanship and quality of artwork
  • Aesthetic merit & creativity
  • Each entry must be no larger than 1m2 x 1.5m high
  • Each entry must address one of the following principles - Avoid, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Entry Submissions Procedure

  1. Entry forms are to be completed & returned to your local participating Council by 13 June 2008.
  2. Entrants are required to delivery their artworks to your local participating Council (please contact Council for the delivery date).
  3. Contact your local participating Council for information on judging dates and local exhibition dates.

Conditions of Entry


  • Waste>Art & Design is open to all community members, artists and schools who are current residents of the participating Council areas.
  • Entrants may only submit one artwork in each category. A separate entry form must be used for each entry.
    In the Regional Competition, entrants in the Schools Sections 1 & 2 will win prizes on behalf of their School
  • All artworks must demonstrate the re-use or recycling of waste.
  • Entrants will receive acknowledgement of their entry and further details relating to judging after the competition closing date.
  • When completing this entry form, entrants agree that their artwork may be photographed, used in promotional material and displays in any public exhibition held by the organisers.
  • The organisers will take reasonable care in dealing with any materials submitted however, they will not accept responsibility for loss or damage which may occur.
  • All artworks will remain the property of the artist and must be collected at the end of the exhibition period.
