The “Reel” Waste Campaign was first launched in 2005. This campaign is designed for school students to design and produce a television commercial that raises awareness of an environmental/ waste reduction & avoidance issue.

In 2005 Secondary schools within the NIRW region were invited to enter the “Reel” Waste competition. They were asked to address the issue of “Don’t Waste….” allowing a fairly broad interpretation in relation to waste in their school and community environment. Students produced a thirty second amateur television commercial with their own interpretation of “Don’t Waste… The winning commercial was produced professionally by PRIME TV and aired on Regional television along with prizes and promotional material.

Program Overview

The program is aimed at raising the awareness in the school community of waste management issues in their wider community.

The key objectives of the “Reel” Waste Campaign are:

  • Increase awareness of waste management within schools in the NIRW region
  • Education and attitude changes towards economic, social and environment issues
  • Providing life skills at an early age
